The Custom House

The iconic and architecturally impressive Exeter Custom House, built in 1680, is believed to be the first brick building in Exeter and is one of Exeter’s freshest arts and culture hubs with an evolving programme of exhibitions and performances, hosting some great literary and creative events showcasing Exeter’s status as a UNESCO City of Literature. It is also home to Exeter’s Visitor Centre providing interesting and helpful tourist information.

Canal Cruise

Take a canal cruise along the Exeter Canal, and soak up the scenery, see the locks come to life and swing bridge majestically open, before enjoying the seaside town of Exmouth or Exeter’s Historic Quayside.

This is a one-way trip where you can either board from Exmouth to travel up to Exeter or depart from Exeter to travel to Exmouth. For your return journey there are ample public transport links within a few minutes flat walk at both Exmouth and Exeter.

Exeter Regatta

The Regatta is a fun, free and family-friendly day out that takes place in the heart of the city on the beautiful and historic Exeter Quayside.

An annual event, it attracts hundreds of competitors of all ages and abilities to compete in over 100 sprint races along a 400m course. There is no admission charge for the day, and the event attracts many spectators who follow the close racing from the vantage point of the Quay and the cafés, restaurants and bars that line the course.

Jazz on the Quay

On Sundays though July and August from 12.30pm to 3.30pm you can enjoy free live music on Exeter’s historic Quayside with a different jazz band playing each Sunday at the open-air Transit Shed adjacent to Exeter’s Antiques Centre and Riverside Café.
